Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an early-onset neuropsychiatric disorder that affects 3% to 7% of school-age children and 4.5% of adults. Its pathophysiology is thought to involve neural pathways associated with attention control and impulsiveness.
I am 41 and live in Toronto, Canada. I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD, and Generalize Anxiety Disorder in May of 2010. The diagnosis was enlightening, because I was able to better make sense of the significant struggles and pains I've experienced in my life. I take Vyvanse, a psychostimulant used to help improve ADHD symptoms - it helps me maintain attention (i.e. overcome distractability) effectively and helps significantly with my impulsiveness and hyperactivity.
Living with Adult ADHD is very difficult. But I'm getting through it, opportunity by opportunity, road block by road block, challenge by challenge and success by success.
Thank you for dropping by and reading about my journey. I love it when I get comments on my posts, so keep 'em coming! I guarantee I read them all, even if I don't respond to them all.
